How many books are available for the iPad and will be available?

Marco asked:

I am planning on buying an iPad and I am really looking forward to the iBooks feature. I was wondering what the amount of titles are available for the ipad currently and how many books will be available probably later in the year. Oh, and I was also wondering what publishing companies will add their titles in the future to the ipad. Thanks!

There are thousands upon thousands of books to choose from on apple’s iBooks store, but you also have the option of downloading amazon’s kindle and a couple of other book apps. The only problem I have with it is the price. You can’t exactly use a coupon. There are some free books to choose from, like classics and stuff that no one really reads a lot unless it is for class, and you can also download a free sample of a book before purchasing it. I’m kinda on the fense about how I feel about apple’s iBooks. I really prefer it to others, but the price is what gets me, but if you are an avid reader like me, you can’t really go wrong. And almost all publishing companies have books available on iBooks, but as for the exact number… I really don’t know it isn’t listed on iBooks. But a rough estimate is around 12-14 thousand

Not sure if it helps, but for reading purpose I’ll definitely choose the Kindle. The screen of iPad is not designed for reading, and will hurt our eyes when we read on it too long.

I’ve given a detailed comparison between the iPad and the Kindle, in a previous answer here. Guess you’ll be interested:

For reading purpose, I think you should definitely go for the Kindle instead of iPad. iBookStore is too unmature at this moment. See a discussion here on Apple’s official discussion forum:

There are some good user reviews and comparison of different models of the Kindle here:

      Hope this helps your decision.
