I prever to use AppBackup from cydia

From their website:
AppBackup is a program for the iPhone and iPod touch that lets you back up and restore the saved data and settings for your App Store apps.

2010-01-14: Version 1.0.9.2 is now available! View changes.
The location of the AppBackup data folder has been changed to /var/mobile/Library/Preferences/AppBackup.

You probably don't need to worry about this.

to install with cydia you need to do the following:

To add it to Cydia:

 1. Open Cydia.
 2. Go to Manage > Tap Sources.
 3. Tap Edit, Tap Add.
 4. Type in iphone.srwz.us/ (be sure to include the /).
 5. Tap Add Source, and wait.

Now you can search for AppBackup on Cycia and get it installde.

They have a good F.A.Q on the site and I've used it a few times.
