It is very important to get the customer a good estimate what a project will cost so that he picks you over other possible bidders. Overestimate the job and you might not get it at all, but underestimate the job and the client might be quite upset (and you may either lose money on the job or lose future business because of it). Therefore it is of the utmost importance to learn the fundamentals of construction estimating - either from a class or book.
